Worker's compensation laws cover most on the job injuries. The law governing worker's compensation cases varies from state to state, but there are a few points which are true of virtually every worker's compensation system:
You are entitled to a disability benefit payment for the period of time when you are off work. This is usually computed as a percentage of your average weekly wage, and the method of computation and percentage will vary from state to state as will the issue of the minimum or maximum payments
You are entitled to receive medical care - some states permit you to see your own doctors at your employers expense, other state give extensive control over your care to your employer
You are entitled to a settlement based upon the permanent aspects of the injury
Many states have passed legal "reforms" to discourage attorney participation in worker's compensation cases, but where it is possible to obtain skilled representation, you should do so immediately.
