Those owning or having control over property have a legal obligation to keep the property in a safe condition for those lawfully on the property. When people are injured as a result of a dangerous or defective condition on the property, the owner may be held liable in a premises liability lawsuit. Dangerous conditions on the property such as: broken or defective sidewalks; loose stairs and handrails; upturned carpets; loose or inadequately maintained fixtures; and other hazardous conditions on the property can subject the property owner to liability.
