The clergy sexual abuse scandal is most closely associated with the Catholic Church, but the pattern of abuse is not limited to the Catholic church only. The conduct by the priests involved is typical of many sexual predators: they gain the trust of the victim and then use their position of power to manipulate the victim into not reporting the abuse. This sets the cycle of clergy sexual abuse for repeated victimization. The real shame in the Catholic clergy sexual abuse scandal is in the failure of the church administration to supervise the priests and the repeated transfers of "problem priests" to other parishes where pattern of victimization repeated itself.
